CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is a machine that pushes air into your airway to hold it open and prevent snoring. ZQuiet is a MAD or mandibular advancement device that you wear in your mouth. It retains your jaw pushed forward and kept your air passage clear.
CPAP machines have numerous parts including mask, hose, and filter, and require AC or battery power to work. ZQuiet is made of one single piece of pliable plastic.
People suffering from severe sleep apnea almost always opt for CPAPs. However, the MADS like the ZQuiet has an excellent record of success in stopping people from snoring as well.
We were shocked when, upon opening the box, there were four ZQuiets. When you order one, the company sends you two, one that is smaller than the other. The instructions tell you to slip each one in your mouth to learn the best fit.
If, as in my wife´s case, the ZQuiet is too big, the company provides instructions on how to trim it with the help of scissors.
The first night went well. My wife and I awoke renewed. I did hear my wife snore very smoothly, but she claims I made no sound.
My jaw, however, was a bit sore after that first night. Nonetheless, apparently, my mouth adapted well since by the second day I felt fine.
Talking too, unlike some stop snoring devices, was easy since the ZQuiet did not need your mouth to close completely.
The cleaning was the fun part. The one-piece structure meant no crevices that took special care to clean, so within a minute or two, we were finished.
Trying The CPAP Machine
You cannot buy a CPAP with a doctor’s prescription. If you do not go to your physician for a sleep evaluation, you will need to fill out a questionnaire given by the CPAP company, and let their doctors assess and validate you as a candidate for the machine. The approval process with the company’s doctors may take from a week to ten days.
With the prescription, you can order the device. Most of them ship it right away.
To clean it, first, you detach all hoses, the mask, and remove the filter from the machine. Then you wash each part with warm soapy water. You can wipe down the device with a somewhat damp cloth.
Most companies suggest cleaning once a week, but users tend to clean it at least once every couple of days.
How CPAP works. You will not snore if you put on the mask and wear it correctly.
The ZQuiet, unless your doctor suggests otherwise, costs much less than a CPAP. If your medical insurance does not cover it, the CPAP can be very expensive. The ZQuiet cleaning is much more comfortable than the CPAP does. There are no moving parts and nothing to break or replace.
Sleep apnea may find that the CPAP is a medical necessity. In that case, you probably have a higher chance of your insurance covering all or part of the costs.
Note that the ZQuiet trial also lets you try the snoring mouthpiece for a discounted price for the first month.
