Great
I found the product to be comfortable, easy to use, and simple enough to clean and maintain. It worked wonders for my snoring.
SleepPro Custom Review
In every product type from cars to cameras, cell phones to anti snoring devices, there will always be a company that targets the luxury side of the market. A company that has made a conscious decision to offer a top of the range product, with a suitably inflated price. Having tested some of the best mouth guards to stop snoring, I wanted to swim in the luxury end of the market, to try and ascertain if the extra expenditure delivered a significantly better product, or did the law of diminishing returns come into force.
This device offers some interesting alternatives, to the majority of the competition, but the biggest difference, and I imagine the reason for the extra cost, is the fitting process. Read on to find out how I got on with the BMW of the Snoring Mouth Guard world.
My Personal Findings On The SleepPro Custom
SleepPro has made an interesting business decision with their range of Anti-Snoring Mouth Guards. They have two products, the standard which I have reviewed elsewhere on the site, and the custom. The custom is significantly more expensive, and the process does allow for plenty of buyer’s remorse, as the process is significantly longer than for any other product.
There is an excellent reason for this, however, as rather than use the boil and bite method when you order the Sleep Pro they send you some professional grade clay with which you take individual impressions of your teeth. You then return the mold to a laboratory who create your very own custom fitted mouth guard.
This process certainly gave me a positive impression (no pun intended), and I had high expectations for the Sleep Pro Custom version. Logically it made perfect sense, to me, and I was very excited to try the final product.
A MAD Device
The Sleep Pro Custom is a Mandibular Advancement Device, which works by physically moving the lower jaw forward slightly. In much the same way as you are taught in CPR this creates a larger gap at the base of the throat, allowing the air to pass without any obstruction, and in theory at least stopping the snoring noise at source. From my personal experience, I would say that if one MAD device works for you, they probably all will. The comfort, ease of use, and longevity of each mouth guard will be the deciding factors on which stop snoring mouthpiece you choose.
In theory, at least, the extra attention to detail that the SleepPro Custom offers, should give it a strong advantage, over the competition. Comfort and fit should be market leading, and quite frankly at four to five times the price of some of the other products on the market, you would expect nothing less.
When my mouthpiece arrived, it fit like a glove, and compared to most other products, it was light and didn’t make my mouth feel full of plastic, due to the incredible thinness of the anti-snoring device. Overall I would recommend this product, although I am not convinced it is worth five times more than some of its competitors.
Fitting The Device
Because this is not a boil and bite product, I thought it was worth explaining in more detail the fitting procedure.
- You will receive a package from SleepPro consisting of a couple of trays and a quantity of Dental Grade Impression Clay
- Press the clay firmly and evenly into the trays
- Place the trays into your mouth and bite down into the clay.
- Remove the trays slowly and carefully, ensuring that you don’t distort or damage the impressions as you remove the trays.
- Place the mold in the supplied container and send it back to the address provided.
- Your custom-fitted Anti- Snore Mouth Guard will arrive shortly
Effectiveness
By the time I received my SleepPro device I had been using MAD products for about five months. My mouth was therefore used to wearing one every night, and so in that respect, there was no learning curve for me. The product felt really comfortable in the mouth and was not as bulky as I am used to; it fitted my mouth perfectly – so far so good.
I fell asleep while my wife sat beside me reading her book, and in the morning she was in an excellent mood, as she had had a fantastic night of uninterrupted sleep. I felt refreshed and full of energy and I was rather excited by the results the Sleep Pro was achieving.
The SleepPro continued to provide the same results continuously, night after night, and that alone convinced me of the validity of this product, and the unique fitting process.
Quality
This is where the Sleep Pro is the winner by a mile. The fitting process, the sleekness and comfort of their stop snoring mouthpiece, was miles ahead of any of the competition. It was like driving a BMW; the whole experience just oozes quality and style. Regarding value, however, I was not so convinced. I guess you get what you pay for, but I was perfectly happy with some of the other guards in the marketplace before trying this one. When I sat down and had a good long think, it became harder to justify the expense of this product, when the majority of the others achieved the same goal for a fraction of the price.
Service
When I write the reviews, I can only comment on my personal experience. I don’t tell the companies that I will be reviewing their product; I don’t want them to know because I want to have the same experience as any other customer. For me the turnaround time with about four weeks from sending the mold back to receiving my custom fitted device, I felt that in the circumstances this was entirely reasonable. A little research online, however, seems to show that the wait time can vary wildly, so take this into consideration when placing your order. The company provides a full thirty-day money back guarantee, and the product itself is latex and BPA Free. The company doesn’t give an estimated lifespan, only claiming that for some people it lasts around six months, for others about two years.
Cleaning And Maintenance
For cleaning purposes, the manufacturer recommends cleaning the product in water, with the aid of a toothbrush. They advise against using toothpaste as they claim this will damage the material over time. They also suggest a brief soak in mouthwash or denture cleaner, but even then there is the possibility that over time the chemicals will degrade the plastic used.
Call my cynical, but it just so happens that they sell a special cleaner which of course will not damage your new anti-snore device. I didn’t investigate the price of this fantastic product, as I am always very skeptical of these type of claims, but I also wanted to point the option out to you should it be a worry or concern.
Summary of my SleepPro Custom Mouthpiece Review
This is perhaps the best snore guard mouthpiece on the market today, at least from the vast range that I have tested. I found the product to be comfortable, easy to use, and simple enough to clean and maintain. It worked wonders for my snoring, enabling my wife to get many nights of unbroken sleep, while allowing me to wake up feeling refreshed, and no longer weighed down with the guilt of keeping my wife awake every night. And yet, I am struggling to recommend the device, based purely on the cost of the product.
In my time spent researching devices that would stop me snoring, I have discussed the issue with countless people, and most will say they would pay anything to stop snoring. I understand the sentiment, but $250 or so per year is quite an investment, compared to the other players in the marketplace.
In this regard, I am going to sit on the fence with this product and let you make your own decisions. I would say that on average this product will last about one year, so if you do choose the Sleep Pro custom, then bear in mind you are looking at an expense of just under a dollar a day to use this device. When you say it like that, it does sound very reasonable, but in the end, it is not my decision to make. You know your financial situation, you know the impact your snoring is having on your life, and that of your partners.
I do believe you get what you pay for, and with the exclusive custom fitting system that SleepPro employs I understand that it is more expensive than a one size fits all approach. I guess the best way for you to make the decision is to take the company up on its 30-day guarantee and see if you feel the extra comfort and fit is worthy of the increased cost. I personally think it probably is, but your mileage may vary.
