SleepPro Easy Fit Review
Having reviewed the Sleep Pro Custom Fit previously and been so impressed, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to have a direct comparison between the more expensive custom fit model and the significantly cheaper Easy Fit model. As the same company manufactures both snoring devices, in theory at least it the two devices should be reasonably similar, and I would be able to quantify the differences that the extra cost brought to the table. So is it worth spending the extra $205.00? Read on to discover my verdict.
The SleepPro Easy Fit Is A MAD Device
A MAD device (Mandibular Advancement Device) works by forcing the lower jaw forward slightly. As you sleep, when you take in a breath of air that air moves down your throat, and for many people, the reduced hole, due to lying on your back is responsible for the noise we associate with snoring. The MAD device works by increasing the size of the hole, letting the air pass through easier, and as a consequence, the snoring noise simply doesn’t happen. About 80 to 95 Percent of people who snore will benefit from the use of a MAD device, but that does not imply that each MAD method will work equally as well for a particular individual.
My Personal Feelings On This Device
In so many ways the Easy Fit was destined to be a disappointment for me, due in no small part to the fact that I was so impressed by its more expensive brother the Custom Fit model. It does stand to reason that an anti-snoring mouthpiece that has been individually custom fitted for you in a laboratory will provide a much more secure and comfortable fit, than one where you simply boil and bite a pliable material in your home. Had I not tried the custom fit model I think this mouth guard would have come in third, which considering the number of anti-snoring mouth guards I have tested would be a commendable effort. To fit the device you need to follow these simple instructions.
- Boil some water (not in a microwave) and then let it cool down for a minute. If you place the device in boiling water, there is a risk of it becoming rough and unwearable.
- Insert the supplied handle into the mouth guard, and then place it in the water for two minutes. When you remove the mouth piece, it should be soft and pliable.
- Remove the product from the water and shake off any excess water. Check the Sleep Pro isn’t too warm
- Fold over any folder material that may have moved during the heating process, ensuring that you can have a nice clear, biting motion.
- Check for the notch at the top of the device, as this indicates you are holding the mouth guard the right way up.
- Look into a mirror, place the device on your lower teeth and then slowly but firmly close your teeth together.
- Bite down hard on the device for ten seconds, ensuring that you move your lower jaw forward a little.
- Continue biting down for another twenty seconds, while following the instructions below.
- Look for a drawbridge effect, where the holes at the front start to rise.
- Suck in to remove any excess saliva
- Rub your index finger against the device molding it to the shape of your teeth.
- Push your tongue against the inside of your teeth in a similar fashion to your fingers.
- If you are not happy with the fit, you can try the whole process from start to finish again.
The positive part of this anti snore device is that the instructions are very well written and deliberate, but in my opinion, speaking as someone who has fitted many of this boil and bite devices, there is an awful lot of room for human error. And bear in mind that without a good fit these devices become much less efficient. The most ironic part of this whole device might be its name, as it is anything but an easy fit.
As I have alluded above, once fitted properly this device is very comfortable to wear. I felt that if you were able to practice on this device ten or fifteen times, it could well be the best fitting device available, at the price, but the overly complicated system makes it much more likely to fail compared to some of the alternatives on the market. One of its standout features that I appreciated is the large breathing hole feature that is executed perfectly by the Sleep Pro. This hole gives you confidence that even with a large alien product in your mouth while you are asleep there is no risk of blockages or suffocation, which I will admit was one of my concerns when I first considered MAD devices to solve my snoring problem. While other products have incorporated a sleeping hole, they tend to be too small, and if anything creates a whistling noise when used which in my opinion defeats the objective. You solve the snoring problem but introduce a whistling issue, which is just as irritating if not more so than the problem you were trying to solve in the first place.
The first night I used this device, it fell out of my mouth, which in turn meant that I started snoring and woke me long suffering wife up. Determined to give it a fair crack of the whip, I repeated the process again, and this time, I seemed to crack it, as I had a fantastic night’s sleep, as did my wife. When fitted properly this device is a fantastic piece of kit, unfortunately achieving that goal is easier said than done.
The actual material and presentation of this product are first class. The breathing hole and design of the entire device are second to none, and I would have no concerns whatsoever about the quality of the product. The device comes with a 100 percent money back guarantee for 45 days, which is slightly more than average in the marketplace. For me, this demonstrates the confidence the manufacturer has in its product.
I have had more interaction with this company than any other, which stands to reason, as I have purchased two of their devices. I have had perfect service on both occasions, and it is fair to say that the quality of service was identical, for both products. In other words, by purchasing the cheaper product the level of service was just as professional and efficient. The products were delivered quickly and on time and communication was first class for every transaction.
Cleaning And Maintenance
Cleaning the Sleep Pro is easy you simply rinse the guard under warm water. Personally, I also used a small bottle brush to clean the breathing holes, as I am convinced that those holes are a prime location for debris and germs to gather. But overall I didn’t have any real concerns about cleaning and maintenance; it is quick easy and simple.
Conclusion on my SleepPro Easy Fit Review
Overall I would probably give this product a seven out of ten. The quality is first class, as is the service from the manufacturer. However, in my opinion, the fitting system, which is crucial to the overall operation of the anti-sleeping device places way too much reliance on the user fitting it properly. I accept that after testing a custom fitted device from the same company, that my expectations may have been unfairly raised. However, if I struggled to get a perfect fit, with all of my experience in testing MAD devices, then I think it is unreasonable to expect a novice to get it right the first or the second time.
This is a pity because, in some ways, the desire of the company to provide a sophisticated and informative set of fitting instructions possibly results in overcomplicating the fitting process. People are excited to get their new device, and then when such complicated instructions greet them, their enthusiasm wanes rapidly.
In saying that I wouldn’t be entirely dismissive of the Sleep Pro Easy Fit. If you can fit it perfectly, it is a truly stunning product. It feels comfortable in the mouth, it is easy to clean and maintain, and the breath hole provides reassurance for those worried about the safety of wearing a mouth guard while you sleep.
With a 45-day money back guarantee, a very reasonable price of $49.99 for one mouthpiece and an additional $20.00 if you order a second one at the same time, this equates to a mere $35.00 per mouthpiece. The one real negative is that other than the boil and bite option, there is no other method to adjust or alter the settings. This might explain how they have managed to keep the price so low, but in my opinion, it might be a step too far regarding trying to lower the price. If it does fit you perfectly, though, then you will have scored yourself an absolute bargain.
