The SnoreRx Mouthpiece Review
The SnoreRx is guaranteed to stop you snoring, at least that is the marketing tagline, and at a cost of $99 with a full 30-day money back guarantee the company is not afraid of putting its money where it’s mouth is. This anti snore device is recommended by more doctors and dentists worldwide than any other device, so it certainly seems to tick all of the boxes.
SnoreRx – A MAD Device
This product has some original and innovative features which set it apart in a crowded field. The device itself is in the MAD (Mandibular Advancement Device camp), and while its main objective is to stop snoring, significant thought and research has gone into ensuring that your teeth are well protected and not damaged in any way, when using the device.
The product includes a custom fit procedure, similar to those used in dental laboratories, and is also the only device in the world, which offers precision adjustment in one mm increments. This is one of the unique selling points of this device as manipulating your lower jaw every night has the potential to cause pain the next day and this attention to detail certainly inspires confidence in the product.
As with all MAD Devices they work by gently advancing your lower jaw forward, improving your breathing, decreasing your snoring, and giving you and your partner a good nights sleep. This product is acknowledged by the American Academy Of Dental Sleep Medicine as a safe and effective way to stop snoring.
The device is FDA approved and all parts used are too large to cause any form of choking hazard. It is made of medical grade plastic and copolymers.
My Personal Thoughts On This Device
Nearly everyone you speak to denies that they snore, and for many years I followed the same path of denial. But eventually, when continually struggling with tiredness during the day, and a partner who was less that impressed I knew that denial was no longer a solution and this product was one of the first that I purchased.
I do like to do in-depth research before investing in a product, much to my wife’s annoyance, but I find it both enjoyable and educational. I was drawn to the SnoreRx product by some things. First and foremost I was impressed by the fact that doctors and dentists recommended it more than any other device. They are, after all, the experts, so if they were recommending a product, then that gave it a lot of kudos in my eyes.
I was also impressed by the custom fit procedure and the adjustment capabilities of the product. Let’s face it you don’t wear these devices because of how they make you look, so for me, comfort was a priority, and the developers of the Snorerx seemed to have taken this into consideration in the design process.
The product arrived within five days of ordering in a nicely presented box. The instructions were well written and easy to follow. The device, unlike some others, didn’t look intimidating, and I was quite looking forward to using it, although perhaps not as much as my wife was.
The Boil And Bite System
This sounds much worse than it actually is, and in a funny sort of way, I found it quite enjoyable. To make sure your device fits perfectly the SnoreRx comes with a special system. The steps are as follows
- Put some tap water in a glass and bring it to the boil using a microwave.
- Place the SnoreRx in the boiling water for 90 seconds
- Remove the SnoreRx using some tongs and dip it in a bowl of tap water for a few seconds to get rid of any boiling water.
- Place the SnoreRx device in your mouth and bite down for 30 seconds.
- Remove the SnoreRx from your mouth and put it in the bowl of tap water again for 60 seconds to allow it to set.
This was an easy procedure to follow, and I was confident that I had done it properly. A benefit of the product used is that you can do it three times if you make a mistake, so don’t panic too much on the first try.
Now that I was confident that I had [properly set up the mouth guard part of the device, it was now time to move forward with the second part of the process. Without any manipulation of my jaw, I found the device to be very comfortable and unobtrusive to wear. There is obviously a breaking in process, as your mouth is not used to wearing a device permanently when you sleep but I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I adapted to it.
The Adjustment Mechanism
The actual procedure for adjusting the device is a little tricky to master initially, but once you get the hang of it, it is relatively easy to complete. Ironically of course once you have it setup to your individual requirements and comfort, you won’t have to adjust it any further.
For me personally this was the only part of using this device that I found involved a little bit of guesswork, and in all fairness to the device itself, this is because it offers the option of adjustment. With all of the other mouth guards you are have no option but to stick with the settings the manufacturer chose, but with the SnoreRx you can move and adjust until your heart is content. Maybe I am a persistent tinkerer, never happy unless I am changing something but I honestly believe that the best way to select the optimum setting is by trial and error. This may take you a few nights but give with a little time and persistence, I personally feel that the SnoreRx is the most comfortable and flexible product of all the devices I have tested, and as we all know that is a considerable number.
The SnoreRx device gave me or should I say my wife the excellent results, with one caveat. It took a few nights of adjustment to find the optimum settings, but once this was achieved I personally found significant improvement in my sleeping patterns and awoke feeling refreshed and with more energy. There was also an initial settling in period for my mouth and jaw, but again this only lasted a few days, and now it is like second nature.
The quality of this product is absolutely, top shelf. From the packing materials to the instructions, to the design and implementation, everything excuses top-quality. For those who prefer to watch rather than read instructions, the company even provides videos on how to fit and adjust the device. I have total confidence that the device will last a considerable period of time, provided you look after it properly. Regarding value for money, I am more than happy with this purchase.
The company stands behind their product, offering a full 30-day money back guarantee, although it is important to note that to obtain a refund the returned product must be post marked within 30 calendar days of receipt, and they don’t reimburse you for postage costs.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The SnoreRx needs to dry out every day, to avoid the build-up of bacteria. Cleaning the device is very simple, you wash it in cold water every morning and then leave it to dry. You can also use denture cleaner if you prefer, and even toothpaste and a toothbrush provides an easy cleaning solution. Maintenance of their SnoreRx is really simple and shouldn’t be an issue for anyone considering purchasing this device.
As you may have gathered, this is one of my favorite devices in a crowded marketplace. I love the variation and thought that has gone into the design and to me, that is what sets it apart from the other devices I have reviewed on the site. It offers the best chance of finding a suitable fit due to the custom fit procedure and the exclusive patented adjustment system.
The only real negative thing I have to say about this product, and this is harsh is that there is an element or testing required to get the best fit for your mouth and snoring issues, but on the flip side the other companies don’t even offer this option so perhaps that is an unfair criticism.
I don’t believe that when it comes to snoring devices that there is one product that suits everyone. There are so many variables and tolerances that people have. With all the devices I have tried, there is definitely a bedding in period, that you have to work through, but for me personally, this device represented excellent value for money, was the most comfortable and has now become my first choice of snoring device.
