Snoring is common especially among women who are in their 3rd trimester of pregnancy. This is reported to be a common problem especially on the last week of pregnancy.
Snoring during pregnancy may arise due to a variety of problems which include some or any of the following:
- Swollen nasal passages
- Higher levels of estrogen during pregnancy
- Increased amount of blood in your body
- Swollen nasal membranes
- Congestion resulting from other causes like cold and allergies
- Weight gain
Loud snoring during pregnancy could be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea, a condition in which airway gets blocked, causing breathing to stop during sleep several times a night.
Pregnancy Snoring Solutions
Prevent snoring while pregnant can be controlled in different ways.
A pregnant woman can change sleeping position. Preferably, sleep on your side than on your back to open airways. It will also help if you can elevate your head slightly while sleeping. You can also use nasal strips for snoring during pregnancy and anti snoring mouthpiece.
Another pregnancy snoring solutions are to stay away from drugs or medications that contain alcohol, tobacco, and sleeping pills. These components increase the risk for your airway to close apart from the fact that these are also the same things that must be avoided during pregnancy.
To combat excessive weight gain, pregnant women should get their food choices right and eat in moderation.
Pregnancy is a very sensitive phase and you need to make sure that measures are done to stay fit, healthy, and worry-free.
