My Snoring Guard Reviews
As a long-time snoring sufferer, I have tested each and every one of these anti-snoring devices. I judged each device on quality, comfort, and effectiveness. I really didn’t spend a lot of time considering brand customer service, because I know service isn’t going to be a deal-breaker compared to finding the best snore guard that feels good and actually works. All stop snoring devices aren’t created equal!
This can be a lot to take in, and I completely understand that. Choosing from a variety of things can be quite confusing, and, to be honest, it all comes down to which of them will you be comfortable with. But since you’re here, let me help you out!
Regardless of why you’re here, whether your better half (aka. forced you to look for methods and devices that help stop snoring, or you’re just curious, there are a few things you should know.
“It’s just snoring, right?”
I’d hate to break it to you but, no, it’s not. You may be here thinking, “Oh, I’ll just put on this device in my mouth, and I’ll be good.” But one thing you should also understand is, how big of a deal is snoring, really?
“Yeah, big deal, everybody snores. No one’s complaining.”
We even make jokes about it. You might have also pulled a prank on your snoring roommate back in college. But here’s the deal breaker: snoring is bad for your health.
See, the reason why you snore is the air you breathe can’t flow freely through your throat and nose. When this happens, the tissues around that area vibrates and causes the snoring sound (or noise).
Consequently, when air can’t pass freely through your passages, you can’t breathe properly. When you can’t breathe properly, you’re deprived of oxygen. When your body is deprived of oxygen, you will not be able to stay in a deep sleep. When you can’t get a good night’s sleep, well, I think I don’t have to explain that part to you. The list goes on.
“Alright, I get it, so how do I stop it?”
To answer your question, there are a lot of methods you can use to prevent snoring. You can either use a vestibular shield, nasal dilators, surgery, etc.. You can go ahead and Google those methods, but we’re here to talk about oral devices.
There are two types of snore guards:
1. Mandibular Advancement Devices (MAD)
MADs are oral devices that look like regular mouthpieces. Don’t freak out! Mandibular Advancement Devices are not like the uncomfortable mouthpieces you might have worn for PE back in high school or college. MADs have a wide range of features, and you can either get one over-the-counter or have one tailor-fitted for you.
MADs hold your jaw forward which allows your throat to stay open, thus keeping your airways clear. Seems uncomfortable, right? Luckily, MADs have been innovated over time to make it comfortable enough for you to sleep while you wear it.
The MAD that really worked wonders for me is the SnoreRx mouthpiece because of its custom-size feature. You can read more about my thoughts on the product by reading my reviews.
2. Tongue Retaining Device (TRD)
Also called Tongue Stabilizing Devices or TSDs. When you enter deep sleep, every muscle in your body completely relaxes, including your tongue. TRDs work by holding your tongue forward as you sleep, so it doesn’t cause partial obstruction in your throat.
If you will imagine it, wearing something that holds your tongue forward all night sounds weird and uncomfortable, right? But, again, it really depends on which TRD will work for you. To me, the one that tops my list regarding TRDs is the Good Morning Snore Solution (GMSS).
“How do I choose which type works for me?”
To be completely honest, it depends on you. Some people find MADs quite uncomfortable at first. Some don’t have trouble sleeping with it. The same goes for TRDs. But if you ask me, I believe it depends on how you sleep and what position are you most comfortable sleeping in.
When I first started trying out snore guards, I found that MADs worked better for me than TRDs. The main reason is because I’m not sure how long TRDs stays in my mouth and I had a mild discomfort in my tongue. It wasn’t terrible, everyone needs to get adjusted with wearing snore guards at first, but MADs worked better for me as I’m sure it stays in my mouth through the night.
How to choose a snore guard
In choosing the right snore guard, I made it a point in all of my reviews to show you four key points you need to know. Those are:
1. Comfort
Of course, your top priority should be the comfort. You may have trouble falling asleep for a couple of nights if it’s your first time wearing a snore guard, but you should also check the overall comfort of the product you will be using.
You need to check the material; is it soft and smooth? You should also make sure it doesn’t irritate your lips, gums, and tongue.
2. Effectiveness
As I said, there is no 100% guarantee when it comes to the effectiveness of snoring guards, but that doesn’t mean you should neglect how effective it is, right? To be entirely sure if a product is right for you, you will have to test it out yourself, of course. But reading reviews will definitely help, too.
3. Quality
In checking the quality of a product, I judge based on its packing, instructions, design, and price. If you want high-quality snore guards, it should at least look the part without being unnecessarily expensive.
4. Service
For the service part, I see if the company or manufacturer offers money-back guarantees. Do they provide refunds? Does the product have a warranty? What are some of the services they provide to their customers? And pretty much anything they do to make you feel like a valued customer.
To wrap it up…
Don’t rush yourself into choosing the right mouth guard or snore guard for you. Take the time to compare the various devices so you can see which one may work best for you. If you’re lucky, you might find the perfect anti-snoring device for you on the first try. Otherwise, it could take a few tried before you find one that best fits you, and when you do, I can assure you that you and everyone in your room will have a good sleep.
